Was back in Iowa last week, and visited with a buddy of mine who is the proud new owner of a 2001 F-350 PSD... . Anyway, it isn't stock appearance wise (4" lift, wheels, and 315 BFG AT's) VERY nice lookin rig, and it has some sort of aftermarket exhaust and an AFE filter. He just got it week before last and he CLAIMS as far as he knows under the hood is stock. I have no idea what to look for, so I had to take his word for it (my first mistake).
Here's the oh no part. My truck just has the minor mods on it in my sig, basically just the EZ. BUT around town, kind of stop light racin, and playin around, I've never had a problem with a stock 6. 0 PSD, and a mildly chipped 7. 3 PSD. I went to get on it to pass my buddy with the 2001 last week, he got on it at the same time I did, and then I seen the smoke, then his tail lights..... LOL The truck has NO gauges, so I recomended that to be his next purchase...
But my question is this. How do you tell (if anyone on here knows) if a PSD has a "chip" or if it has been programmed? Next question is, what can I do to my truck, with the stock transmission (can't afford full DTT right now), to avoid this embarrasing situation???..... :{ Oh yeah, he said that if it WAS programmed, they didn't compensate for tire size since his speedo was still about 5mph off... . Anyone know how much the stock Ford transmission will hold for HP?
I almost forgot, I think my LP is givin up the ghost, after one truck stop fuel up, I couldn't pull more than 3 psi FP on the way to IA. After a while it came back up. I also wasn't getting very good mileage, even according to the computer. 15-16 where as it usually shows around 17-18 avg. Truck also seems to be STRONGER now that I am back up in altitude here in CO... . seems odd... . Or could just be my imagination too... Could this be part of the problem? I haven't checked codes yet.
