The reading lamp bulb went south and I can't find a like number replacement. The bulb reads:

T S 578

I can find 577 and 576 but the bulb shape s wrong. Anyone know a good replacement or do I have to take bags of $$$$ to the dealers parts dept. ?

Model year 2000 uses a lamp numbered 212-2. Check this drawing and see if you can find some numbers other than 578 that might work.

Is there a lower wattage bulb for the overhead lights? Those things are just too bright for me.

I figure I can lower the wattage, voltage, or transmitted light. I like the wattage thing best, but tinting the covers seems really simple too. Not really excited about messing with the voltage, but am sure it can be done.

In the meanwhile I've learned to flip them off with the thumbwheel and use a small flashlight to preserve my night vision and prevent 1000 flying critters from assembling in the truck.

Wade,

Check the link I posted above. Looks like the 214-2 bulb (if you can locate any) are about 6 watts vs. the approximately 9 watts for the 212-2 factory bulb.

You can get colored buld paint and make your dowm light Red. I have seen this done and its great, you could drive with the dome light on and not hurt your night vision. Looks cool too.

dealer has the bulb at $2. 56 each. thanks for the suggestions.

bulb paint EMDDiesel, can you really read by the red light without ruining the drivers vision? Wife'll love it !!! Especially since I don't let her drive very often... . ;)

The bulbs I found were Carquest and numbered 9xx. We hooked 'em to a battery in the parts house trying to figure out which was brighter/dimmer -not easy. I haven't put the bulb back in--the map lights alone are plenty too bright.

Yeah, where's the bulb paint?
