Since CI4 oil is nearly impossible to find and the new CJ4 oil lacks some additives that are beneficial to pre ULSD engines, are there any OIL additives out there, that will get back to where we would like to be?

Any experiences with AVBELND out there is Diesel applications.

I'm also going to ask Blackstone labs for advice/opinions.

I think you'll find far more members here who riducule oil additives than endorse them - and most commercial businesses aren't ABOUT to stick their neck out to recommend any, either... ;) :-laf

Amsoil 15W40 is CI4, as is the 5W30 HDD. However, both supposedly have high levels of a Zinc compound that isn't recommended if you have a catalytic converter.

Can you tell us what necessary aditives are missing in the new oil?

I haven't used any oil additive ever. Mine still runs like new at 119,450 miles and the old '89 still runs great. I sold it 6 years ago with 225,000 on it then. Now it is in commmercial use locally.

the new issue of TDR had an interestiing article in it on several oils they tested. Most of the ones tested were CI-4, only one of em was the newer CJ-4. I thought it was a pretty good read.

My 10k UOA of CJ-4 Rotella came back looking fine... it had plenty of additives, in fact it looked very much like CI-4plus...

my understanding wich could be wrong is that a new oil coming out has to meet the standards of the old oil as well as meet the new requirments. now i got that when i was at school(wyotech) so take it for what its worth. i for one belive that so im not worried about this new oil
