Changed the oil today and had them do an oil analysis to see if I've gone too far on my oil change. Here are the results:

aluminum 6

chromium <2

copper 5

iron 17

lead <2

tin 5

silicon 8

potassium <2

sodium <2

moly 65

water <2

oxidation <2

visc@100 14. 8

glycol ND

fuel <2

TBN 8. 2

nitration 2. 4

soot 1. 9

From all I can read about UOA, these number look good. It was with Chevron Delo 15w40, AFE oiled drop in air filter, oil fiter was Baldwin, I think. Local big rig oil change business has done almost all my oil changes and has the sample analysis machine there at their location. Any comments?

Soot is a little high IMO. Are you sure it is 1. 9 and not . 19?

Some of the Analysis reports that I have seen around the web show a lot less soot than what you are posting whether it is a Cummins, Powersludge or Undurablemax. And yes, this is for all of the newest EPA mandated, more fuel burning, emissions tree hugging liberal engines.

If your soot % is in fact correct, I would suspect the Baldwin filter.

I looked at it again and it reads 1. 9%. I am running a Fleetguard Stratapore on this oil change, fuel filter as well. Will do an analysis and see if the soot lowers on the next change.

That's cool. I was just checking. Anything 2. 0 and lower is good from what I have read.

I started doing oil analysis two oil changes ago since I started running Amsoil AME 15w-40. I have stuck with the 1yr/25,000 mile schedule. I don't an analysis anywhere inbetween. I do it when I change the oil.

First time I used Stratapore filters and changed them every 7500 miles or so until I reached the 25,000 mile mark. Soot was . 9%

Second time I started with a Stratapore, changed it at 7500 miles and then put a Amsoil EaO80 on and left it on until it was time to change the oil at 25,000 miles total. Soot was . 1%.

The reason I did the weird thing the second time was because I had one Stratapore left and I wasn't going to let it sit there and collect dust.

Soot is about normal for no bypass and that many miles. I was at 3. 0% at 19702 miles. According to OAI Cummins condems oil on the newer motors at 7% soot. Good oil will keep the soot suspended, which makes it harder to filter, but you still filter out a lot of it.

The 6. 7 with EGR deletes shows VERY low soot number because the cam profile doesn't have the in-cylinder EGR that the 04. 5-07 has.
