I just recieved my oil analysis back from Blackstone Labs and am very happy with the results. This being my first analysis I will have to continue testing so I can compare the results. Being the experts, Blackstone said my truck is wearing very well. I have used Rotella the life of my truck since I received it with 11 miles on it back in June 02. I recently changed to Rotella synthetic when I put my HX40 on last fall, so have about 2 changes with it in my truck. Out of the folks that I run around with, I run my truck pretty hard, so I am glad these results say that all is well. I was just posting my results to see if anyone on here had anything to say about them. I think the sheet says it all, but if you have an questions I'll try my best to answer.

Do they check for soot levels in the oil? I didn't see anything on the sheet but I'm not a chemist either.

Did you ever do an analysis with the regular Rotella oil 15W40 before switching to the synthetic?

No, I didn't get a baseline from new oil to compare with, this is my first sample ever on my truck. I thought they test for soot also, but didn't see it on the sheet, I'm curious to see what that reading would be:-laf I'm going to email them and ask about that though. I had to go to their website to read the sheet and fully understand everything, they explain it fairly well I would say. I wish I would have had it tested before switching to synthetic, kinda late now:( Then I could see if the higher price is worth it.

I've been doing Blackstone tests since the second change on mine (102,000 total now) and have switched between dino and synthetic a couple times and never had any obvious differences.
I would be curious about why your moly and boron numbers are so low. Is that just a rotella synthetic deal or the miles between changes or what?
I've been doing a test every other oil change but I might start doing it every change as the mileage grows.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't "insolubles" the measure of soot??

I was wondering that. I was also curious if it would come up as fuel since it is unburnt fuel basically. If insolubles are soot, I have plenty of room for more smoke:-laf Thats how I read it anyway:rolleyes:

Hmmm, didn't even read that part, not sure if I had the brainfart or if they did. :-{} Don't think it should have much bearing on my results though.
