Gooseneck hitch on a used truck a bad sign?

I'm so Excited

I am sorry for this silly question. But I have read on some threads about oil analysis. What is it?, What would it tell you?, is this somthing that I should be doing on a regular basis? thanks

gds3076,

Right now, the oil working in your crankcase, gearbox or differential contains information that could be vital to the performance and productivity of your engine or equipment.

Contaminants that can indicate wear or cause serious equipment damage such as metals, water, raw fuel, acids, fuel soot and other solids collect in the lubricant.

Using oil analysis to evaluate these contaminants is a scientific approach to predictive maintenance, allowing you a look inside the engine, trans, etc. to "spot" mechanical wear and contamination in its early stages. By doing oil analysis, you can extend the life of the engine, trans etc. and head off major maintenance expenses and prevent catastrophic failure that can shut you down or leave you stranded, and you'll "Maximize" lubricant life. In some cases, oil changes are not needed for hundreds of thousands miles! My last CTD had only one oil drain in 150,000 miles in 9 years!

Hope this helps in answering your question.

Thank you very much for the info. I wasn't to sure what it was exactly. but after reading what it does and the fact that it is preventitive maintenance I am all for it. I would rather fork out 20 or 30$ per oil chang rather 6-8,000 for a new engine!
