What can i get for a good synthetic engine oil? Will it hurt to switch to a synthetic engine oil after using Rotella T 15-40? What is the best lube to run in a NV-4500 5-speed trans? Can i run a synthetic lube in my front and rear differentials, with a factory limited slip? What is the best synthetic lube to run in the differentials and what weight of lube in the diffs? Where can i purchase this good stuff, sorry form the long post.

I wouldn't switch engine oils man, keep that Rotella, it is good stuff. As far as the NV 4500 goes, it takes a 75- 80w full synthetic oil. Castrol Syntorq is what I put in mine, and you are not gonna like the price, 58 bucks a gallon!! But that is what the manual calls for. You can get it at Standard Transmission in Ft Worth Texas. www.standardtransmission.com. I would just use normal 80-90 gear oil in the differentials. That what I would do if I were you man, just my . 02

If you change oil every 3-4000 miles, Rotella is fine. There are many fine synthetics available and they are fully compatible with the Rotella so no problem if you want to switch. Differential oil? That's a whole different story. Even the owners manual says to use synthetic if you do any towing at all. I ruined my rear axle bearings towing with the stock non-synthetic oil and only run Amsoil in the diffs now. Series 2000, 75-140. I use Amsoil in the engine too. Do a search on oils, there are plenty of threads on various oils along with a wide variety of opinions.

nfox: I switched to Delvac 1 after 115,000 miles (from Rotella) with no problem. Oil consumption seems to be the same; none added between changes. Mileage may be abour 1/2 mpg better, but I need more data to be sure. Biggest difference is starting in under 50 degree temps. Starts a bit easier and is much more quiet (less valve chatter?) right after startup. I think you will see a big difference in cold weather starting.

I plan to change oil and filter at about 15,000 mile intervals. (I changed the Rotella at 6-7,000 mile intervals)

I've used Mobile 1 gear oil in front and rear diffs and Mobile 1 ATF in the transfer case since about 60,000 miles, No problems.
