OK, I know that this has been asked and answered, but the thread was moved and I can't seem to find where it went.

I need oil capacities for my 98 12v 5sp:

front diff

transmission

transfer case

rear diff

Jiffy Lube and I are going to have our day in court and I need this data to show that they could not possible have checked these levels when they were all dangerously low 13 days later.

(Yes, I do it myself now, thank you very much)

Michael

There is no harm in being prepared but everyone I know who has taken Jiffy to small claims court has won because Jiffy didn't show up. Jiffy banks on the fact that most folks won't take them to court.

Doesn't your owner's manual list capacities?

That's good news.

My case is that it is virtually impossible for all four oil levels to be dangerously low less than two weeks after they "check" them.

Haven't seen the manual since about a week after I bought the truck. Could blame it on kids, but it was probably me.

Michael

Michael, I'll let you go this time;), this is for a '95, yours should be the same, I buy my oil in bulk and pump it in so have never verified these numbers.

trans- 4. 2 pts

transfer- 3. 1 pts

front axle- 6. 3 pts

rear axle-10. 1 pts.

Good luck in court!

Something's not right here. I know I put 4 QUARTS in the 5 sp. Also, my bill from Dodge saiys they put 3 QUARTS of atf in the transfer case.

Michael

Won't be long now illflem;) 4. 2 qts sounds better for the trans and 3. 1 qts for the transfer case. Too much FRESH air and solitude there in Montana!

michaelsgreene, I know of more people that have had their cars/trucks screwed up by fast lube joints. Think about it, they have young, in-experienced kids working on expensive equipment. I have known of a few front drive VW's that lost the final drive because it was a split system, atf in the trans and 90wt in the final drive. They would just ck the trans oil and not the final drive because they didn't know.

I do services for people and the first thing that I tell them is that it will cost more for me to do the service because I CHECK EVERYTHING. I tell them "Who would you rather have servicing your car, a 17yr old kid or a 50yr old, 35 yr experienced mechanic?" DUH!!!

No, I didn't mess up, the manual is messed up. Looking at it again they got the litres right but converted it over to pts when it should have been qts. I thought it seemed off, that's why I said I couldn't verify.

Thanks for catching it guys
