Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) oil catch can ? and maybe a mod.....

Has any one ever put a vacuum pump on it with a catch can put some where else... . on some of the drag cars ans street cars i've seen people put electric smog / vac pumps like the one the come on late model Fords and Chevy's. . would it not help with the oil mess and help free up some HP... i know i run a belt driven one on my race car with a pressure pop off valve in the valve cover so it don't pull to much... but i really don't know much about crank case ventilation on diesels. .
