Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil change at 300k interval and oil filter relocation kit

I just got my TDR magazine and read with interest the article on the truck with almost 500K miles. he said he used Amilie synthetic (I assume it's synthetic) and went almost 300K miles between oil changes. He had the oil quality lab cheked every so often. He also put on a double oil filter relocater kit.



Ok, I'm not sure about the 300K oil change but I'd like some information on having the oil lab checked. Does anyone know the process? Where can I find any information on this?



I really want to know about the double filter relocation kit. Where can I get one? Any help would be appreciated.

I haven't had the oil tested personally... yet, but I will. A cummins dealer will take you through all the steps if you decide to do it. The test will show types and quantities of contaminates, such as metal, dirt, coolant. It can tell you if you have a problem, such as rings, cam or bearings, before it becomes expensive. My company does oil analyses on our aircraft engines, its more of a saftey issue than anything, but it can still save us a lot of money to catch something ahead of time. Thats all i know, hopefully someone can give more detail on what an analysis can tell you.

Geno's Garage, in the links on this site, has an oil lab test kit that is very reasonable. Take a sample and send it in per instructions and get an analasis sheet back on oil contaminents and viscosity. You must do a trend on oil by setting a base line and taking regular oil samples for the information to be of any use to you.
