Hi,

I have a 2003 3500 -- great truck! I just had these three maintenance items done -- expensive truck!

If I do these things will Dodge honour my warranty? What would they wont to see? I'm sure I can change engine oil, and the fuel filter. The diffs I am concerned about. I don’t see a drain plug? Where would I get info on this?

Thanks,

Steve

Fuel filter - get from Genos or cummins - dealer - $40 - Genos or Cummins approx $10

Differential - do a search - gaskets reusable - use synthetic 75w90. . Dealer $20(mine) recommend alternate - amsoil, redline, valvoline etc (synthetic) approx $10+-

Steve... Many of us, on this board, do all our own routine maintenance. Don't have to waste time taking it to the dealer... don't have to wait for it... don't have to pay their high shop charges for parts (2-3 times retail) and labor... don't have someone we don't know fooling around with our trucks.

Doing your own routine maintenance will not void any factory warranty...

There is no drain plug on the differentials. The good news is that the new ones have an "O" ring seal that makes it very easy to remove and replace the cover...

Have fun... ;)

Receipts. That is the only way I know of to show them that you did what you say you did. I asked my Jeep service advisor about that 2 years ago when I bought my wife's Rubicon. He said to keep the receipts for the oil and filters, etc.

Jeff

I normally tear a flap off the filter box and write the date and milage on it for my reference. I keep them together in a manilla envelope, tossing the whole thing in a drawer in the garage. It only proves I changed the filter but I've always changed the oil filter when I change the oil and if I changed the filter every 5000 miles I probably changed the oil too! Now, how to prove I change the gear oil... . keep the receipts?

O-ring seals front and rear diffs? When did they start that?

It's not a o-ring as most think of a o-ring. It's a flat fiber gasket with 2 o-ring type seals running parallel to each other aroung the gasket.

Buy a replacement rear end cover that has a drain plug, that way you only to remove the cover one time. Makes the job easy after that. As for rear end fluid, I use Royal Purple it costs about 7. 99 a quart and you get it from www.RPMOIL.COM

I also replaced the transmission pan with a over size pan that has a drain plug, makes that much cleaner as well.

I bought PML brand cover and pan.

Synthetics typically yield lower operating temps and less wear due to a more uniform molecular structure and higher grade ingredients. Its alot like baking a cake - you only put in what you want (instead of boiling out what you don't)

I used Royal Purple in my 2001 and plan on using it for my 2005. I'll use Royal Purple "Max-Gear" for the G56 and "Syncromax" for the front and rear differentials. I haven't looked at the requirements for the transfer case, but if Royal Purple has something for it, that's what I'll use... ;)

You got the 2 fluids mixed around for their intended applications.

I don't know if this is ok on this board or not, but I saw several people talking about Royal Purple. I am going back to conventional oil in the engine in my truck and have about 14 quarts of Royal Purple 15W40 that I would sell for a very good price, plus shipping. I'm not a dealer, just an individual trying to offload my remaining stock. Please PM me if you are interested.

Thanks,

John

Besides RPMoil.com, try Longrider.com, that's where I get royal purple for my wifes car and my truck and think it's hard to beat their prices... Also, I get the stuff "A LOT" quicker from long rider than I did RPMoil.

Yep... Got them reversed... Also found out that the transfer case takes ATF+4 so I guess it's Royal Purple all around... :D
