Hi Everyone;

I just received an email newsletter from cummins talking about extended oil drain intertvals on the larger engines. They were talking increasing the intervals in the ISC and ISX engines.

"Oil Drain Intervals Extended.

After extensive testing, Cummins and Valvoline have announced extended drain intervals for ISX and ISM customers that use Valvoline's Premium Blue® engine oil. Change intervals for trucks in normal service have been increased from 25,000 to 35,000 miles (40,234 km to 56,328 km) while vehicles in light-duty service can go 45,000 miles (72,421 km) between oil changes. See Extended Oil Drain Intervals for more information. "

Now my question is of course, using the Valvoline oil, can we do the same in our ISBs???

If i am not mistaken those engines have rather large sump capacities compared to the ISB engines. I would think that that would have a lot to do with it as there is more oil to "deal" with the contamination Etc. I think that those engines also have an additional by pass filter too, but I may be wrong on that.

I have about 17K on my oil in my ISB but I also run full synthetic, have a by pass filter, change my full flow filter every 5K and do oil analysis every 5K also. My analysis' always some back well with in the limits so I keep running the oil.

Its a toss up with what you want to do. My by pass and synthetic have already paid for itself with savings on oil changes and I am confident that the engine is no worse or even better than an engine that gets 3K chages with regular dino oil.

But I'm NOT looking to start a bypass or oil war LOL.

Extended drains can be done if done properly with our trucks. Running str8 dino oil or synthetics with out a by pass and analysis I would NOT extend the drain periods.

Hope this answers your questions and helps.
