I'm considering purchasing a 2012 or 2013. I've always changed my own oil. My question is: if I change my own oil, will the 'oil change due' indicator automatically reset or is it necessary for a dealer to do this? And, if a dealer has to do it, will they likely charge me and how much? It would really suck if I had to take it to the dealer every time to reset it.

I don't know about the oil due reset, but you should get a 2013. Im sick of hearing about all the problems with the 2012's... . feel like it's just a matter of time before my truck explodes or something. So far my 2012 runs great, but I get 13. 5 avg mileage, and had my serpintime belt tensioner go bad at 1200 miles. and oil change indicator came on at 2100 miles. Like I said I love my truck, I just feel like somethings gonna go wrong at any moment. The 2013's are supposed to have a little less problems (so I hear), beter MPG, and 15k oil change intervals.

You can reset the oil change notification yourself. On my 09 you turn the key to the on position, depress the accelerator pedal 3 times within 10 seconds then turn the key off. It is then reset. I'd imagine the newer trucks use the same procedure.

You can reset the oil change minder, a real simple procedure outlined in the owners manual. I have 2012 3500, a little over 12,000 miles, only a couple of real small problems, not even dealer worthy.
