Oil Change required Indicator

This is my first tread so bear with me.

I have a 2007. 5 2500 ram with the 6. 7 at 2581 miles the oil change required indicator came on. It is scheduled for the first oil change at 7500 mile. Dealer says, that Dodge says that if it comes on you need an oil change. They say there are no settings, that the computer determines when it will activate. Can anyone tell me why it would come on so soon?

Our local Cummins shop says that the oil should be changed around 2500 miles on a new engine (which is when my change indicator came on) and then whenever the indicator says the oil should be changed thereafter. The sensor supposedly monitors the type of driving that has been done and detirmines when the change indicator will appear. I am not sure how I feel about that at this point...

Our local Cummins shop says that the oil should be changed around 2500 miles on a new engine (which is when my change indicator came on) and then whenever the indicator says the oil should be changed thereafter. The sensor supposedly monitors the type of driving that has been done and detirmines when the change indicator will appear. I am not sure how I feel about that at this point...

I'm at almost 3300 miles and my oil change indicator still has not came on ... but will be changing it soon.

I'm curious why the pickups have to have "oil change required" indicator and no service chart in the owners manual, yet my '07 C&C doesn't have this feature(thank god) and has service intervals scheduled for 7500 mi. . I changed my oil initially @ 3000mi and again @7500mi. I'm now going to go with 7500mi intervals. I realize the pickups have a different emission package, but Find it hard to believe the oil would be so contaminated as needing changing @ 2500-3000 mile intervals. If the oil is that contaminated,I think longevity is going to be an issue.

My change oil light came on at 2800 miles the first time and 5400 the 2nd time. I did not change it the 2nd time I just reset the computer and its been about 800 miles and no new light. I don't think the computer dose a very good job with keeping up with oil change i think its all bs theres no way i am going to change oil at 2500 mile intervals and get 11mpg that bs.

The owners guide that came with my truck says to change at 7500 mile intervals and there is not Service 'A' or 'B' listed... not for the 6. 7 anyway. Just like happened when I got the 98. 5 the book is listing two engines, at that time it was the 12valve and the new 24valve.

This has been discussed in prior posts, the oil change is based on duty cycle, the same duty cycle that controls the regen. TSB 18-033-07 Rev A or B should correct the high idle time readings that cause the severe duty cycle readings and extend the oil life to normal.

I just read a thread from doughboy21kd that if you put your ignition in the on position not turned over and push down on the acellerator 3 x in ten seconds this will make the oil light dissapear and reset I just did mine thanks dougboy21kd it worked I am having the dealer change the oil anyway today anyway just in case Matt 2007. 5 3500qc 4x4 laramie dually leer cap tfp ss handles and tailgate Go rhino ss hitch step and factory steps

The resetting of the 'oil change' indicator is clearly explained in the owners manual.
