oil change

I need to know I just did my first oil change 3600 miles,I have a 2003 HO Auto 4x4. The manual says 11 quarts but they also say i will need a drain pan that will hold at least 12 quart, so I put in 11 quarts and the dip stick says it is fine . there is 10 quarts in the pan and 1 quart in the filter. Is this right or do I need to add a quart... ... ... ..... My 03 owners manual says 12 quarts, including one for the filter
