I have an annoying oil leak under my truck every night. When I did my last oil change, I looked around to try and find where the oil leak was coming from and I noticed that I did not have a leak from the engine itself, but was getting a drip from the blowby tube.

Is this an indication of something going wrong with the engine?? It happens pretty frequently and I want to see if anyone else has had this problem and should I take my truck to the dealer. I only have 33,000 miles on my 05 Diesel and I am not currently running my Smarty on the truck because I wanted to eliminate that as a cause.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. My friend has an 06 and he does not have the same leak and his truck has twice the miles mine has.

A little bit of oil dripping out of the tube is pretty normal. My '03 does it for a little bit after an oil change. No big deal. If you have a lot blowing out the tube, then you have a problem.

I usually get a quarter size spot on my driveway everyday after I park my truck. This has been going on for awhile and I am beginning to think I have a problem even though the truck runs and drives great. I don't have any other indications of problems.

If this is more serious, what might it be?

What year is your truck, how many miles any modifications??? Oil from blow by tube is normal to a point. If you added too much at your last oil change you may get some more than usual come out of the tube. Check your oil level if you haven't already. You can install a bottle to catch the oil and empty it out sat each oil change. I always wondered why they can't vent the cranckcase from the valve cover like on gassers so that only pressured gasses exit and not oil?

I have the same problem with my 06. After I drove it home from work, about two hundred miles, it leaves a puddle in the garage. It doesnt have the texture of oil. It actually dries out and can be cleaned easily. It kinda has a carbon texture when it drys. I hope this isnt a huge problem. Im already on my second engine and this one only has about 35,000 on it.

Some oil is is normal BUT how is your oil level???

If you are overfilled you will get more out that tube.

Also if the valve cover mounted breather is clogged or the oil drain tube from that breather is clogged you will see more oil too.

I just did my oil change a few hundred miles ago and the oil level is spot on. I will have to check the breather to see if there are any obstructions.

As for modifications, I only have a couple. I currently have an MBRP Cat back dual exhaust, an AFE Stage II intake, a Quadzilla outlook monitor, and I use a SMARTY S06. I currently have the truck set on stock, but I have never gone above level 3 when I have had it on. I am conservative with the settings as I have not gotten a chance to upgrade the transmission.

Thanks for all the help.

I've had oil under my engine and front of trans for a while now. I'm pretty sure it comes out of the breather tube, and haven't worried about it. But, I too was curious of some oil out of there was normal. Mine is an 05 also.
