Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) oil cooler leak

I had a oil leak at the oil cooler... pulled it and got the gasket at the block to the oil cooler to replace... there is another gasket (Hard plastic) between the cooler and cover... I didn't get a replacement because it looked ok, now i'm second guessing should I replace that too, how about RTV? with or with out the hard plastic or should i just get the Cummins gasket... . ?

I would say go with a thin coat of RTV and the same gasket if it looks fine.

I would go get the correct gasket, that is no place to be squirting RTV around in my opinion.



Gasket # 8 is 3930907.

We don't ever reuse gaskets as the risk of a comeback is too great for one thing.



The RTV is not a good idea in my opinion because of the small passageways in the filter head/oil cooler cover plate.



It is up to you, do you want to chance it with what you have or go get the new gasket and be done with it..... ???

Well alright then... i am done with oil all over my engine. I hear you on the RTV i get nervous of that stuff getting down to the oil pick up an clogging it up. good advise. . thanks

I also have oil all over engine and have not had any luck finding source. Thought it might be coming from near AC compressor. Cooler gaskets might be the answer. Will look again. Are these gaskets available at NAPA?

I got #7 through my dodge dealer... part no. 5003481ab... list $64. 70. #8, I ordered but have not received yet through a cummins dealer on the internet. Napa, I'm not sure? Derrick

too bad you already ordered the gaskets. I got both gaskets and a fleet guard filter + ups shipping for $55. 98 delivered from cummins west in San Leandro,ca. That was overnight. Do any of these get gasket sealer?
