Getting ready to replace my oil cooler/hoses/thermostat/coolant. Just wondering if any one had any tips/suggestions like how much coolant to buy, etc. Thanks.

IIRC the system capacity is 24 qts. It should be in your owners manual.
I looked in my workshop manual and there’s absolutely nothing on the oil cooler. No torques or anything. Does anyone know where I can find the procedures?

Thanks. I think it may be overkill on my part to change the cooler. No leaks yet but since I’m doing the coolant and I still have the original cooler in. Yesterday the Cummins parts guy said I should change it. Today I went to pick it up and another guy said they see mostly gasket failures. Maybe I should just pull it and inspect it and if it looks good throw it back in and return the new one? I’m heading way south of the border for a few years and don’t want any issues.

Have you ever done an oil analysis? I'm planning on replacing mine when the weather cools due to high copper content. It isn't bearings because there isn't any corresponding tin or lead. I've put 400k on this engine. Unknown miles prior to me rebuilding it.

Well I’ve got all the parts in case I find any traces of oil in my coolant. If I don’t see any signs of leakage I think I’m not touching it tomorrow. I’ve only got 165K on my motor. It has been sitting in storage for up to a year for the last 5 years but I’ve always changed the antifreeze and thermostat every 5 years. It sounds like most people that have had problems didn’t keep up with their maintenance. That cooler looks pretty well made.
