I have always gone thru the wheel well on my 2012 6.7C...never really liked the approach but better than going thru the top...today, I dropped my light, rolled under the chassis, went to retrieve it and DUH...I can reach the filter from underneath with a standard 3/8 inch cap wrench...and a 3/8 12 inch extension... holy cow, so easy...and so much faster...didn't even need the filter plug, she fell right out...

Well, heck, I could have told you that.
It's the redesigned frame on the 2013+ 3500 and 2014+ 2500 that you can't do from the bottom.

Another perk for the 4500’s and 5500’s.....

It has been that way for as long as I can remember, my older son's 1996 and his 2006 plus my 2008 are all serviced from underneath. But alas in 2013 Ram had to mess around and change the frame thus blocking access to the oil filter. My younger son's 2013 has to be serviced thru the fender.

My 2013 will drop out from the bottom. In 2014, Ram changed the front shock placement to behind the springs where in 2013 they're inside the springs.

*** I have one of the oil filter caps that you screw on so not to spill oil when tilting the filter out through the fender well. If someone could use it, send me your address and I'll send it to you.

YOU don't ha e a 19 or never now do you???
I went from a 2006 2500 to a 2019 3500. I now access the filter from the wheel well. I use Geno’s cap so no mess. I looked underneath and no access. I thought there was no access on top but I’ll check next service to see if i missed something.

Some prefer going thru the top, as said I did it a couple times, never again when I heard about the Geno's cap. You have to remove the turbo intake from the turbo to get to the filter. I prefer not to have to take parts off to get to the filter . I am sure there will be at least one that will give you the full run down on how to get to the filter thru the top .

As others have stated, with the cap from Geno's, it's been a breeze to change oil through the fender well! Can also prefill, add cap and place into position, remove the cap and install. I could have filter out and prefilled before removing items to come in from above! Now I don't have that problem any more since moving filter to under passengers seat on frame! Took a bit to make mount for install, then the skid plate to protect from road debris but well worth it! Plus it also allowed me to install a bypass filter for a little extra filtration and oil capacity which is a good thing. No matter how you get to your filter, just keep that oil changed to keep that 6.7's heart beating!!

You are answering a question ,with a question . It was a simple question ,have you ever changed your oil filter on your 2015 Ram 6.7 diesel thru the fender well ???

NO, and you can't tell me you do and PRE FILL to near the top of the filter and one handed lift and screw on the filter without spilling a drop.

It's simply loosening two band clamps and the intake tube comes right out on a 19 and newer. NO SPECIAL TOOLS REQUIRED. PS, wait for a while for the oil filter to drain back before removal or there will be oil pouring out the top.

Why in the world would I want to fill the filter near the top ,regardless of which way I do it . Usually 3/4 full is good enough for me , from what I understand there is really no need, but I do it anyway . Not sure why you are even asking. Yes I have no problems replacing the filter with one hand , if you have ever done it you would know, the filter more or less guides itself up in there , no place to really go but in place .

I have an old towel I put down in the bottom of the cavity ,so the filter sits on it while I put the cap on ,and off during removal ,and replacing. Don't knock what you don't know is all I am trying to say. I do know what's involved doing it thru the top ,and I do not like the process whatsoever . To each his own.

To each his own is right and i wasn't asking you about your 19. I don't do it that way because there really is not enough room on mine IMHO. I also don't need to pack anymore tools than needed as I am already 24k on my RV and at my RAWR on my truck.

My truck is easy from the top but the 19 and newer is a non brainer as it's two band clamps.

The 19 and newer are Simple Simon also, but from the TOP.

I agree, no different than my '91 or '01, loosen two clamps and intake tube is off. I did have to struggle in the fender well breaking the filter loose. My original plan was to just loosen the filter (engine was cold) then run it and change oil. I damaged the filter with my strap wrench and cheater pipe, so now I had to get it completely off and install a new one so I can warm it up. I will change the oil at a later date. Finally removed the filter with my end cap wrench, 3/8's drive ratchet and cheater pipe. Talk about seized on!

In the future I might try and change oil through the fender while rotating the tires, like JR does. I think that will be easy too.

Then in the last two days a gosh dang rat made a nest, Grrr! Both battery blanket tops and part of the hood liner.
