When I changed my oil for the first time I found out that changing the filter isn't going to be as easy as it was on my 03. The only way I can see to do it is from the bottom, then you have to wipe up all the spills. On my 03, I took the air tube off and there it was, just unscrew it and put the new one on. This one has several lines that are hooked to the air tube and they don't look like they would be worth taking off to do that job. The only other thing I can see that would make it easier would be to take the inner fender out, then again, is it worth it.

Everything is working as advertised. Mileage is still running 10 - 10. 5 while towing. I probably haven't run 250 - 300 miles total without the trailer behind me. I have over 8,000 miles on the truck now and have done nothing but sit in the seat and steer, and that is just the way I like it.

and... ?

i find it very simple and clean removing the filter from bottom. . very rarely does a drop get spilled [flute socket & 10" extension]

lots easier than removing parts from up top to gain access to filter

[just my opinion]

What I do is loosen the filter then place a gallon size glad freezer bag around the filter and let it drop into the bag. I try to remove as little as possible to get to the filter and the bag helps alot.

Like you said, "just your opinion".

I prefer to loosen two bands, remove the air tube and be able to see what I'm doing rather than sticking a clean filter up in a dark hole and taking a chance of getting some trash in it. This is just my preference. You can't do it that way on the new engine without a lot of hassle. I'll probably go to the Amsoil dual remote setup and not worry about it.

I agree, I also like going from the top, but when not available, a sheet of blue shop towel over the filter on the way up into the blind hole will keep the nasty stuff from falling in. If I were you, I'd get that remote filter mount and live happily ever after

I added the dual remote setup on my truck under the rear bed on the passenger side. Real easy when it is time to change oil/filters.
