I changed my oil and filter the other day and when I spun off the old oil filter I noticed it was only half full. I have never seen that before. Any ideas why?

Was the engine/oil hot or cold?

I have ran into the same thing. Once it will be full and make a mess. The next will only be 3/4 full.

Thought I read once on here the oil will drain back when the motor cools down.

Drain pan first and filter will drain down a bit

Same thing here. If I remove the filter right after the truck goes on the lift it is full. Drain the pan first and after about twenty minutes I don't have it run down my arm. Ha Ha.

Geno's has a filter glove which works if you're in a hurry. ---->
