I would look in the yellow pages for the nearest Metro Cummins Dealer in your area and buy the oil filter through them. If you install the wrong oil filter, even though it might not leak after the install, if it blows out or leaks later you will not be covered under warranty if the engine fails. I would not recommend playing around with improper oil filters you have too much to lose! Just a thought that is all. Enjoy your 03!
If you want the best filter for your Cummins, get a Fleetguard at you local Cummins distributor. Also any decent bigrig service & parts center should have Fleetguard filters for your truck.
You want the Fleetguard Stratapore which is pn LF16035 for the 2003 Rams. If they don't have that one ask for LF3894, which is for the 2002-down Rams. The two filters are identical except the LF16035 is knurled so it can accept this tool for removal from below. I use the LF3894 filter and remove it from above with a strap wench after I take the intake hose off. #ad
Another option: Order from Geno's Garage. Go to the Links tab above and start searching. You'll find all kinds of "gottahaveits!" that will cause the credit card to go into meltdown!
After searching the fourms and the web, and then the links page, I ended up at Geno's garage and ordered 6, LF 16035s, next day shipping so I'll have them Tuesday. I also have the 6n1 wrench. Thats what clued me in that I may have the wrong replacement filter.
