Issue # 71 (article by John Martin) did a review on oil filters. Referring to page # 67 price of Wix filter # 557620XE is listed at $10.49. Checking three sources of part stores including O'Reilly's to find the price around $24.00. Price for Wix filter 557620 price is around $14.00. Was the price quoted in issue 71 correct? What is the difference between the two filters 557620XE and 557620?

I agree with Joe. I just purchased Fleetguard oil filters from Geno'S for $13.25 when you buy 5 or more. Air anf Fuel are $15.15 ea, when you buy 5 or more. I get together with two other Dodge Cummins owners and buy 6 of each, which are all Fleetguard.

What is the difference between the two filters 557620XE and 557620?

A simple inquiry on the Wix website reveals the 57620XE has a Paper/Glass media with a 14 micron rating and the 57620 has a Paper media with a 20 micron rating.

Issue 71 was 4 years ago, so I am sure prices have increased.

I highly recommend the Donaldson DBL7349 or ELF7349. About $15/ea from filterspro if you get 4. http://www.filterspro.com/detail.cfm?part=2679568

The DBF7349 is the best oil filter for the ISB, and isn't that expensive. It's rated at 15µ at 98.7%, and 7µ at 59.97%.

Those are the nominal filtration ratings, and are only part of the story. There is no set standard for efficiency at nominal, but it's generally in the 50% efficient range.

The 57620XE happens to have more info on the wix page so we know that it's 14µ at 50%, and 25µ at 95% efficient.
The 57620 also has the additional data and is 20µ at 50%, and 30µ at 95% efficient.

I've always used the Donaldson or the Fleetguard filters regardless of the price. Cheeping out (for a couple bucks especially) on an oil filter that's going on a $8k++ engine that's in a $45k++ truck just doesn't make economic cents (intended) at all.

Trying to find a filter equal to Fleetguard LF16035. Article in issue 71 refers to the Wix filter is equal to the Fleetguard. Found the entire article very interesting, a must read for everyone.

Notice the Fleetguard filter from Geno,s is still the same price as quoted in 2011.
