Make sure you check inside the filter before you start an oil change! Found this when going to prefill the filter:

Out of 20 filters this makes the second with gunk (sealant, glue or whatever) inside the filter...although I didn't inspect all of them as carefully as I will from now on. The first one was a while back and had darker stuff around the mounting plate which could be broken off using my fingers. Even though it was on the dirty side of the filter I tossed it out rather than take a chance. Two rejects out of 20 is a 10% reject rate, pretty discouraging. I emailed Cummins Filtration about the latest one and was punted to an 800 number with no contact person.
Thumbs up to Geno’s. They are replacing the oil filter. Hopefully they can find out what the stuff is and if it would be possible for it to come off and get in the engine. Maybe it is time to switch brands
