I went to my local Cummins/IH dealer to get a Fleetgaurd filter for my truck (see sig). I asked for a LF3959 which is the number I found either here or in Geno's catalog (can't remember). Anyway, the parts man said they don't carry that number, and to use the LF3349, which is the one I've always bought there for my 1st gen trucks. He says that's what they use on non-Dodge Cummins B applications, even the newer ones. I went ahead and bought it, but I want to be sure I'm not going to hurt my engine over the cost of an oil filter. If I need to, I'll mail order some, but I refuse to go back to the dealer and pay $13, when I can get a Fleetgaurd for half that.

The following is from TSB 09-004-01.

Notes:

The LF3349 Cellulose filter does not appear on this list. It was approved in the past for 12Valve engines, but it has been superseded by the LF3949, which has a stronger metal case for the 24 Valve engines. You can use your existing LF3349's for 12 valve engines without concern about warranty coverage.
