Bob,welcome to the TDR. I don't know how 1/2 full is even possible unless your oil filter position has been changed or your breather tube is clogged causeing a suction when you drain it,but even with that it's hard to figure. As long as your oil pressure is good it isn't a problem. Consider it a blessing, at least it's harder to spill.

Dr. B it isn't good to only have 1/2 full oil filter, that is a problem I would defitnately have looked into.

Dr Bob, Recently I've letting my oil drain for about 6 or 7 hours, and the filter is never full after I pull it, doing it this way.
In the past, I did the change within an hour, and the filter came out full, or close to full.
I'm guessing with the extended time to drain, it somehow siphions oil out of the filter??
PS I've also learned that you should loosen the oil filter while it's warm. Much easier.

What this means is that my oil pump has to fill my filter every thime I start the truck. I wonder if that hurts anything, the delay. Also how do I get my signature back so I can put one in. New at this.

Bob,what kind of filter are you useing? Some filters have check and bypass valves built in,not sure if fleetgard is one of them, could it be the lack of a check valve causes the problem?

It's not a problem. For those that drain the pan first and then pull the filter it will appear that the filter is between 1/2 & 3/4 full. It is my understanding that it doesn't actual drain but is siphoned out when the pan is drained. I once made the mistake of pulling the filter before the pan was drained and the filter was full enough to spill everywhere and I didn't use the baggie that time #ad
