Gas motor oil in Cummins?

Amsoil Series 2000 75w90 Shelf life

I am wondering if anybody is using the Trasko spin on oil filter. Trasco claims it filters out particles down to 1/10 a micron.

Regular oil filters are no finer then 20 microns.

Trasko claims you don't have to change your oil for 10,000 miles. I thought oil that is not synthetic breaks down after it is opened.

If you are not using synthetic does the oil break down and will it harm the engine.

How will synthetic work in 10,000 miles.

I can't comment on the Trasko filter. But, I've gone as long as 10,000 miles with Delo 15w40, and the oil analysis said good to go additional miles. However, I did change it. That was with the Fleetguard Microglass filter. I'm now running the Stratapore.

The oil really doesn't breakdown, it mostly has to do with the additives in the oil being depleted.

Never heard of that filter before, and don't use synthetic oil.

I use Rotella T and Fleetguard Stratapore filters.

I never herd of that brand, doesn't mean they are not any good, just i never herd of them. I do run synthetics, and i like the benifits they provide, and the lower operating temps. I do not use my truck that much, so I change oil once a year, and I spin on a new filter ever 2000 mile. It's quick (5 min job), and just top off the oil level. I enjoy working on my truck, so it's not a problem. This is just what I do, I do not mean to imply you or anyone else should follow suite. Actually I could care less what oil you chose to use, and what type of maintanence schedule you follow. I don't care to get into a "who's oil is best match", or now "who's oil filter is best". That is your bysiness, so no-one get bent out of shape. I use AMSOIL because I like it, I made my own choise. I also use amsoil filters, or fleetguard micro-glass, that is it. I chose those two, after i cut several name brands into, and looked at the insides. If you would do the same, then you will no why I use them. Good luck:eek:

My only concern about filtering down to 1/10 of a micron would be the flow capacity. I believe this is why the bypass system is popular.

You do not show your truck's year or mileage as relates to warranty. If you are still in warranty, that is another issue worth some thought. There have been some problems with some filters breaking down and getting filter material into the engine, plugging up oil passages and causing real problems. Warranty of course does not cover those situations when using a non-approved filter.

I wouldn't use one on a diesel. Most diesels use a full flow filter, meaning there isn't a pop off valve inside the filter to bypass oil around the filter as it becomes clogged.

Trasko says "Piston Valve Mechanism provides superior oil flow" and the cutaway picture shows a spring, this indicates to me it is a bypass type filter. 0. 1 micron would plug up fast then bypass the oil = no filtering.

It might be ok to use one in an application like a bypass filter in conjunction with the stock full flow filter though.

Bill, " Filtering media provides 100X the filtering capacity , IF that statement is true then clogging wouldnt be a problem. Would be nice to see if it keeps the oil clean like they show. $78 a filter, wow. Question, do they bypass filters keep the oil looking clean after 5k + miles?

2. How is the Trasko Oil Filter different from any other systems?

The Trasko unit consists of a reusable canister with built-in 36 cooling fins. Trasko traps particles by lateral dispersion. The special filter element composed of kiln-dried paper has a fine porosity that traps fine particles from flowing oil while dispersing through its permeable layers. The special pressure relief valve-nut actuates when there is a pressure build-up or a surge. The valve then redirects or bypasses the oil to circulate through the 8-10 micron mesh (The critical pressure for setting itself into a bypass mode is between 85-90 psi). Thus regulating a constant pressure differential in the range of an Input/Output of 1. 00 : 0. 89. When flow is least restrictive the absolute particle rating efficiency is less than a micron. Upon relief actuation the secondary efficiency is still between 8-10 microns. An efficiency rating still higher than any stock type full-flow filters. The Trasko is a hybrid filter, conditionally set as full-flow oil system for any engine and changes itself into the bypass mode when it experiences a pressure above its critical range. Regular shunt market filters are designed full flow only and if they do have a bypass valve then their bypass is without a guard and the oil flows without any filtration. The Trasko can be used also as a bypass unit, if you prefer to install it along with a regular filter on a dual remote mount. The Trasko is a highly recommended product for diesel applications as well. . See some Spot Tests.

4. Could you use the regular tissue paper as a filter element available in grocery stores?

NO!!! Trasko’s patented tissue rolls are composed of different porosity and permeability. The filter media comes in three different sizes for the 20S, lOS and the lOSS series. NO other media is recommended as a substitute. When ordering replacement kits be sure to mention the size of the unit that you have installed to your engine. Find out which filter fits your vehicle by referring to a Fram filter guide (available in Wal-Mart Stores). You may also try this FRAM, Look-up Utility. Then utilize our Cross-reference Guide to match the specific size.

HMMMMMM

Any chance this falls under one of those, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is?" We got anybody around here actually uses one of these? Can anyone report what they are getting back in the analysis?

Cheers,

Steve J.
