I can get a good deal on a case of LF3894's, which are the stratapores that fit my 99. Can I use these on my 97 12 valve as well?

Thanks,

-Vic

Yep you sure can. 89-02 the same. Though they say don't use a old part number that originally was used or came out in say 89 on a 90-02 motor. You can go back like you're wanting to do but not forward or something. I think the 03+ are different. I can use any oil filter up to 02 in my 89.

Could be wrong, but I thought someone said the 3894s will fit the '03s, but don't have the corners on them for the filter socket.

I use the 3894s and sometimes the 3552s on my '97. Like Bill said, don't use a filter that was originally made for the 12v engines. The 24v puts out more pressure.

The LF3894s fit ALL '89 to at least '04. 5 trucks and probably the '05s when they come out. I always use the 3894 on my '03.

My 96 only gets the 3894 :)

So remember. . . 3894

The main difference is in the case design which is heavier on the 99 ups to hold the higher oil pressure. I ran a filter for my 92 on my 99 then heard about cases splitting open so I sent it off to the manufacture which checked it out and said that it had stretched a little - Shortly there after they had a new part number for the 24v's. I'm now using the last filter from my 99 on the FrankenDiesel which is a 96 12v.

Just remember that they are backward compatible but not forward.

Thanks guys. It turned out to be a false alarm- he was giving me the price for the standards and not the stratapores.

Thanks anyways, I'll probably still go to just the 3894 when I'm out of 3552's, just to simplify things in the garage.
