I was checking out oil filters over at "bobistheoilguy.com" and they were discussing Wix filters made in China. It seems some are China, air filters from Poland etc. when one person stated he has never seen a Purolator not made in the U. S. . I went to the garage as I have a few Purolators for the daughters and Wife's vehicles and sure enough "Made in the USA". Question is does anyone know of other filters made in the USA ?. Does anyone use the Purolator oil filter on their Cummins ?. I also have a Motor Craft for the Daughters car which States "Made in the USA". I know that Fleetguard either down scaled or closed some facilities and moved some operations from the U. S. to Mexico:mad:.

Can't speak to the Chinese Wix filters, but the Poland filters are usually their European product line. (VW, BMW, Mercedes, etc)

I have probably 250 Wix filters in my shop for my own stock and haven't come across a Chinese one yet. I do have a bunch from Poland, though.

I spin on and see a LOT of filters of all kinds at my job. From passenger car to exotic hydraulic filters. The dominant brand was always Donaldson, now going to Hastings and Baldwin with a sprinkling of OEM, Fleetguard, Wix, etc. Almost always the filter is USA. I am seeing more china and Mexico. I saw a Baldwin for a Racor R90 that was Chinese, and just today a Donaldson for a Davco that was mexican, and I spun on about 5 others that were Hastings- all USA. I was skeptical of Hastings at first, but theyre coming through with a lot of unusual numbers and from the outside, look decent. Strong cases and heads- who knows what they look like on the inside.
I loved the expose the TDR did on filters a while back. However I think it should be done again and periodically to ensure what we are using. I am learning with ALL brand name items- regardless of what it is, you cant but on name alone. With all the cost cutting and outsourcing going on, what WAS on top, may be junk NOW. Just ask me about Mack Trucks... NOT the top dog it used to be... .
