5W30 is the recommended oil for the G360 (aka Getrag) due to the tight tolerances of the G360. When I still was running a G360 I used SYN 5W30. You will also need to overfill by 1 qt. That will quiet down and prolong its the life.

It seams every person you talk to the oil is way diffrent on thetype to run some say gear olil some say 50 weight best fix is to remove it when it breaks like i did

The chiltons definately dont thats for shure ive also had soome dealers or there personel not know much either i agree on the lucas to the oil i used that in mine until it broke

I've got a chart in a textbook that says that 40 weight engine and 90 weight gear is roughly the same viscosity and they just use the higher number for gear oils so as not to get confused with motor oil . Now I'll put on my flame resistant panties because I'm sure to ketch H*ll for this one

That is correct. 20W50 has about the same SAE weight as 75W90 gear oil. You are also correct as to the reason. I learned this in a Pennzoil class and tour of their bottling plant in Portland OR.

Was it the pocket bearing? That is the critical point for lack of lubricant with a normal fill.
Over filling brings the oil level up to keep that sucker running in oil!
The transmission sits at a slight angle, with the nose up! Thats why ya need more juice in the case.

Never had an issue with the Getrag in my 91.5, other than seals.
The 93, 3rd gear syncro went out and took a gear shaft with it. I believe the thread is in the 1st gen section, back in the Fall of 2010.
Anyway! I had the transmission rebuilt by a local "reputable" transmission shop. They dropped it an additional 2X after the rebuild. They claimed issues with the replacement syncro???
I asked, what kind of oil did ya use? They said 5w-30 Dino. The 3rd gear syncro still would not work in normal shifting mode. I brought some 5W-30 synthetic down to them and had them change the oil using 1 gallon of 5W-30 Synthetic (Amsoil-Syncromesh) It has worked just fine, since! Did they do a credible rebuild? IMHO, NO! But it gets me by, for now! Big difference in oil performance! For sure!

first thing that happened to it was the 2-3 syncro went then it basicly just got stuck in gear so im not shure , i called it broke
