I have an ATV with a 300cc air cooled engine with oil injection. The manafacturer sells their own brand of oil for this machine and assure me that it will self destruct if I dare use any other brand/type of 2-cycle oil in it. I went by the dealer today to get some oil and was told that the 2-cycle oil should be in any day now. What do yo think of using 2-cycle oil for outboard motor in the ATV? Or does anyone have any recommendations? bg

I run Echo brand synthetic 2-stroke oil in my string trimmer on recommendation of the dealer that sold me the trimmer. Dealer talked about how unbelievably awesome the Echo stuff was. Told me a story about how it saved someone's engine from dying after the wrong mix was used. I considered it mostly marketing... . and yet I still go back there and buy it.

I think you'll be fine running whatever quality 2-stroke oil you can find in the ATV. I seriously doubt it will "self destruct" if you use another brand. Did you ask the manufacturer why their oil is particularly special?

I use the "Walmart brand" in all my 2 -cycle engines. Never had a problem yet! ;) I like it so much, I started running it in my truck! :-laf

Use Klotz, it is a high performance 2stroke oil. They have both a castor bean oil formulation and a Synthetic. I have not used the Syn. much but burnt the heck out of the castor bean stuff in my Banshee, sold the quad before the Syn. stuff came out. Never had a problem even though I mixed the ratio lean on the oil, I think it called for 32:1 and I would run 45/50:1. The thing ran cooler and had more pep. But then again the Banshee is a high strung sports quad also. Get the Klotz and mix to your ratio and go out and have fun.

And don't forget to enjoy the new found smell of your exhaust. :D

Just don't use Golden Spectro, it stinks. Kinda sorta like after changing your oil with Rosmella.

I have used a bunch of different oil in my KX and not one ran better/worse than the others. Smells did change. My downfall was when I used seafoam to clean the carbon out of the motor and pipe... the rod bearing went with it :(
