I have oil on my rear axle, it appears to be coming from the breather tube off the engine. Is this normal for the breather to leak oil. The engine has 103k on it it and has good power but the oil appears after a long run,(500 miles) down the highway. Around town it does not do this. Is this a crankcase breather problem?

It's fairly commom on FRONT axles but not rear. If it is the rear axle it would cover the whole under carrige from the breather tube back and that might be a problem. If it's just on the rear axle it could be the rear axle breather tube. We could use a little more info about your truck. That would help us to help you.

I always have a few spots on my fuel tank and the front of the rear diff from the blowby tube. My 89 had 250K miles on it and this 93 does the same thing with far less. As long as its a few spatters, thats normal I would say.

My truck is a 1990 w250 with the banks intercooler kit. The breather tube sticks down the drivers side of the motor terminating about flush with the bottom of the oil pan, the oil spatter is on the bottom of the fuel tank and transfer case cross member from there it lands on the drivers side rear diff. My tuck has a 4 inch lift with 35" tires, if the spray is not uncommon I am wondering if I need to put the tube closer to the ground such as the stock configuration would have been? When I park at night it drips in the driveway, the spot is about the size of a dime. I thought this was not to abnormale from big trucks I have seen. Do you believe RPM may have anything to do with this oil spray? It seems to occcur more when i travel down the highway at 70 mph which is about 2000 rpm with my 4:10 gears and my NV4500 transmission. Should I decrease my highway speed? Thanks for the replys I really appreciate them.

I have a 92 4x4 and do get a little blow by out the breather tube, but is only on the front axle.

If the oil splatter on your rear axle is slightly off center to the drivers side, then it is probably just the crankcase breather tube. However, if it is centered up on the rear axle, you may want to check and make sure that it is not the seal on the rear driveline that is leaking. Mine had to be replaced at about 80k miles.
