Question about higher line pressure and resistor install

What parts to use when building an auto for 500+hp?

After noticing that the oil gauge goes from around 40lbs. of pressure down to around 20lbs. when braking and sitting still after the truck has been warmed up, I took it in to dealer for a checkup and was told this is a normal "sweep", as a first time owner I know jack crap about a diesel and need some help. Basically is this normal or should i be expecting a problem shortly????

The oil pressure guage is fake from what I understand. It takes data from the ECM to show what you could expect the oil pressure to be under the engine conditions that you are operating in. If pressure drops to under 6 PSI it goes to zero. Basically a glorified idiot light.

That's an awfully big sweep! All I can say is that mine rarely varies more than about 5psi either way when warm. HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!!

Cheers
Mike

Erogers speaks the truth. There is no real oil pressure "sending unit", only a pressure switch. It tells the computer you have oil pressure and the computer makes the gauge dance for your amusement.

It had me fooled too.

Here's a thread that dicusses it thoroughly.

Sickening, isn't it? :(

Sounds exactly like my 04. 5... put a real guage on it and your running 60psi at cruise and idle between 25 and 30psi...

actually a new tsb just came out today that ahs a little to do with the oil pressure gauge. but that is when the engine is above 195 degrees. also turns the fan on sooner to cool the engine. down side it sets the wif light off every 500 miles. so that you know to drain it.
