Recieved my Bypass filter yesterday. Does anyone know what the thread is on the plug on the top of the oil filter mount on the Cummins? This looks like the cleanest spot to tap for oil.

It is a test port, lots of guys mount their oil temp sending unit there. I believe it is a 1/8" female NPT thread.

That is where you tap in to supply the bypass filter. I am assuming an Amsoil setup. Return to the oil fill cap with there fitting about $12 extra.

O. K the test port is 1/8" FPT. The filter I purchased is the Oil Guard EPS 20. Looks like nice unit, Anodized lid w/ powder coated cup. Very heavy duty, road trash will not dent it. String filters are simple to change and not very expensive.
Next I will stop by Angeles Valve for some S. S. fittings. I think I will get a bulkhead fitting and return the oil into the valve cover above the oil filter. I think the unit will be mounted on the frame rail under the turbo. looks like plenty of room with reasonable access. I may have to move the front axle vacuum lines slightly.
