How much oil is acceptable in the turbo boost tubes? A local mechanic who specializes in diesel motors and mods said that its not uncommon to have oil leak out of the turbo into the tubes. However I have small puddles in ALL of the boost tube boots, clear up to the intake. I am sure its from residue and not flow, but I have had this turbo rebuilt twice because of oil and I am thinking I might be due for a new turbo as this does not seem right to me.

You should not have oil in the tubes. Do you have an oil type air filter that has been over oiled? My truck has 498,720 kms with the original turbo. there has never been oil in the tubes. You have to be careful about the amount of oil because of the possibility of a runaway.

Ok, that's what I was afraid of. Any ideas short of replacing the turbo? Has 180k on the pickup with original turbo. Long ago I had a oiled air filter, but now its a dry element.

Thanks

How much oil? None, if I was driving it. Got your eye on a new, cool beans high performance turbocharger?

Because your'e getting a new one soon. Whether you want one or not.

So what is a good turbo to replace this one with and were would I get it at? I wouldent mind one that would spool up faster, but I dont really need a performance turbo. The pickup is used for daily driving, towing from time to time and over all around the farm use. HP is about 335 with nothing in the future past 400 at the most. 98. 5 24 valve, 5 sp.

Thanks again!

you should fill in your signature or add truck details to your post. there are so many variables about year, trans, mods, future power upgrades... \

with as many folks around here that put aftermarket turbos on early, maybe you could find a stock takeoff that will fit your needs and be a WHOLE LOT cheaper than an aftermarket unit!

ok, next time i'll read all of the posts before i add my $. 02!
