200,000 on this truck. just put rear main and bunch of other seals and stuff in to fix oil leak. losing just as much oil now as before. Just ran 600 miles, no tow and used 2 qts of oil. Little leak not much, just put a bottle under the blow by so I can monitor it. I noticed water in the blow by bottle. May have dripped down in the bottle since I just sprayed the engine to cool it off so I could poke around in it but It seems unlikely. I'd say 2 tablespoons of water for the 10 miles I ran around town this morning. some oil around the front pumpkin but I think that was from the blowby before I put the bottle under it. Check the inlet turbo, no oil and dry. Didn't check the outlet though. I did run the truck up to 2200 RPM and put a piece of cardboard back by the exhaust, looks clean, no oil reisdue. Where's my oil going? Got a lot of money into this truck and would like to keep it going for another year or so, but I don't want to drop an engine in this monster.

In my opinion this is the worst thing you can do to an engine. I would advise against it.

Regarding the oil leak, I feel your pain. I had an '85 Bronco II that magically "lost" oil. No matter how many seals I replaced (including rear main), it lost oil. And it wasn't burning it. I never figured it out before selling it.

Maybe your best bet is to add a die to the oil and search for a leak with a black light.

I would pull the hose loose at the intercooler to see if there's any oil comming out of the turbo. If it was leaking out of a seal 2 quarts in 600 miles would be a nice drip.

I did pull the intercooler hose. Just to confirm, the one on the right side looking at the engine, coming out of the down tube. no oil, dry. Also a bit of smoke when I shift or wot getting on a interstate, but no real oil signs. a bit of soot around the exhaust and lower corner panel, but nothing wet. SO far I have $20,000 into repairs on this truck and I still owe about that much on my loan. Don't need this thing going south on me, it is my money maker.

You might want to have an oil sample analysis. Maybe that would show something.

Are you getting any oil in the engine coolant?

No oil in the engine coolant. I have determined the water in the blowby bottle was either condinsation or drip down the hose from the engine wash. No water this morning. However the bottle collapsed a bit. I punched some holes in it to breathe but maybe it wasn't enough or the breather pumps some seriously hot air. should be ok though. At least I can monitor my blowby this way. I am leaving tomorrow on a long trip. I will be monitoring my oil and I will post the results, maybe with a few minds together we can figure this thing out. Hopefully it's not as serious as I am making it out to be.

when you installed the seals rear main and front i beleave they are to be installed DRY years ago i was told the silicine rubber seals have to be put in with a tool for alignment --but dry or they will still leak !!

It sounds like you pulled the hose on the fresh air side of the turbo...

On larger trucks, its not uncommon for the oil leak to occur on the exhaust side... dripping oil into the exhaust stream...

Hope this helps. .

Just wanted to follow up my thread. I traveled about 4500 miles, used almost 2 gal. of oil. Blow by had about 1/2 pt of water in the catch jar I had. I traded the truck in last week and got a new 4500 which I just Love!
