Hey sorry to hear of your troubles with this. I myself am looking at tearing it all apart here soon. I would suggest going to your local John Deere, Case IH, or other agricultural dealers in the area as they often deal with more than just their name brand in parts. I have had good luck getting parts that I never thought they could get through them.

Just another idea is all.

I replaced the seal on my pump almost 3 years ago with the kit from Gould Gear, it is a double lip seal and the tools and vido are included. I also spoke with him on the phone and was very helpful.

I've done what Don did, twice. The first time I damaged the seal myself. Those are sharp edges on that drive and it's easy to nick the seal. Second time I used one of the little wire spacers that came in the kit to space the seal out a little to get off the wear groove. Worked like a champ.

As far as oil leaks, better get used to them. I don't like them either, but a little leak here and there is just a part of life. Like other's have said, it's not leaking oil, it's just sweating horsepower. ;)

Not all replacement seals are equal

Same thing happened to me. The second time around I used Fixin Rams kit and no more leaks.

Give him a call and tell him your situation.

He also does a pump exchange or will do the repair for you.

I bought a rebuilt Pump from Gould on E-bay, he will wait for your old pump. He is very honest and fast. I have taken mine out to many times to admit. If you do not take PS Pump off with it, you most likely will have a leak down the road.

I find that if you loosen oil drain line on side of block, installation goes faster with bottom oil drain

Is it leaking at the inner rubber part or outer metal part of seal?

Many years ago it was suggested to put silicone (blue goo) on outer metal part of seal because it will leak there.

If the seal from Gould is installed correct the leak will stop, if you con't to have a leak I would look for problems with the shaft. The original seal has a single lip, even if worn this double seal will seal.

all replacement seals have been double seals. The accessory drive gasket I have been using is cummins part # 3929751; no leaks there. the Red O ring on the plug is also cummins but there is not a number on the bag. The seals I have used so far are CACO ANGUS DPSM28387V ( OUT OF THE GENOS KIT) , NAK TC 283876, Timkin 283807XX, and the one that just started leaking last week is Chicago Rawhide # 10924.

then why does it stay dry for 3000 miles? The seals I remove look perfect except for the first one I beat up removing. This drive unit only has around 50,000 miles on it from dealer new . it not like it a 200,000 mile unit on a 300,000 mile truck. I guess I will have the steering pump drive couple magnafluxed when I pull it this time. I doubt it has a crack because it took too much pressure to press it on the steering pump shaft though.

I would give Gould a call, the man I spoke with years ago had a lot of knowledge concerning these pumps and has seen thousands and may just have the answer.

I ordered a new drive yoke from Cummins this morning ($40. 00 part number 3914707) and a vacuum pump reseal kit ($8. 93 part number 4089742) Could not find any "Gould" on ebay but finally found who this "Gould" is reading down through the search hits and have emailed him.

O. K. , I found from a search on the fixinrams site that this "Gould" is a Peter Gould from Indiana doing business as Gould Gear and Electric and his ebay seller name is Ramtrans1 in case anyone wants to try to contact him.

Still no parts from cummins. I usually won't take anything apart without all the parts on hand. down 1/2 qt on dipstick. One of these days maybe.
