Crawled under my truck tonight and noticed oil around the bellhousing. Is this a bad thing or common problem? The seam between the motor and bellhousing has a light coating of oil on it. I really noticed it right at the slit that is open below the clutch.

Thanks,

Dave

Leak

Mine was leaking at the approximate location of the rear of the transmission and the front of the transmission extension that connects to the transfer case. I noticed a drop on the bottom of what appears to be a stainless hex head that faces straight down. Took it in to the dealer and they tightened it and cleaned it off, topped off the transmission fluid... . I don't know how much they added...

Some minor leakage at the rear main is not a problem when new. You might also be noticing some assembly lube that is gradually draining off the engine. If it is a real leak, you need to check the valve cover because bellhousing stains are frequently caused by a little leakage up at the valve coverthat runs down the backside of the engine to the bellhousing.
