Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) Oil Leak, OilPan or Rear Main

2001 2nd Gen Truck.
I have an oil leak in between the engine Block and the transmission.
I cannot tell if it's coming from the oil pan gasket or the rear main..
Is it possible to drop the oil pan as it sits?
It doesn't appear possible.

Only if you lift the engine. The oil pickup tube extends to the bottom of the deep portion of the pan.

I recommend you take a real good look at the tappet cover gasket for leaks. They are more common.

Not sure if the 5.9's have a balance shaft seal, check that out as well. Mine was weeping and replaced under MaxCare.

He's probably talking about the cam bore seal between the adapter and the block.
