oil leak

ragjoint: That would be one of the transmission oil coolers. DC refers to it as the water-to-oil cooler. I found these clamps to be loose when my truck was a month old. While you're in there check the clamps on the rear of the cooler.

Trans cooler lines possibility.
But I don't have auto trans and I have a hose behind filter.

I think your looking at one of the oil line (hoses) for the turbo.

Matter of fact I just looked. It seems to be the return line for turbo as it connection leads down into oil pan.
Mine has a little oil on it also I quess I will have to check it out.

found oil on the floor under the truck today.
wasn't coming from the breather, looked like it was coming from between the motor and trans. on closer inspection, followed a trail of oil down the length of the oil pan to a hose with 2 clamps behind the oil filter. Aparently the oil was leaking out of the hose blowing down the oil pan and dripping out between the motor and trans leaving me to beleive I had a serious oil leak. What is this hose and what does it do?
Anybody else had this problem? Any input will help, Thanks

It is the return oil line fron the turbine housing. Give the gear clamps a snugging, it is much easier to access with the oil filter removed.

Also sometimes I've noticed these loose from the factory or in a less than optimium position on the rubber hose causing the weeping. Once our mighty fan blows it around, it can create a mess, huh?

Try throwing the dowel pin through the gear housing, now that's an oil leak! #ad

Must be the turbo oil return cause the truck has a 5 spd trans. I am going to fix it sat. If thats the prob I'll let u know. THANKS to everyone.

Had the same leak on my 95. The return line from the turbo. Clamp was loose. Tighened it up, wiped off all the oil and so far so good. And yes it is easy to get at if the filter is off.

Took oil filter off sat and tightened the hose clamps on the turbo return line. They were both really loose. The oil filter was only two thirds full. Is this normal? Truck sat all night. Was going to reuse filter since I had another 2500 miles to go for a oil change. Chose not to. No more leak. Thank you! Going to call Dynatrack now to check on kit to put hubs and locker on front axle. Anyone done this? Does anybody make a 2spd dana 80 single rear wheel to fit our trucks? Thanks.

ragjoint, it is normal for some oil to siphon out of the oil filter after sitting overnight. Most oil filters have anti-drain back valves that are supposed to prevent this, but I have yet to see one that works 100%. Sort of makes the putting a plastic bag over the oil filter before removing trick useless if you let your oil drain overnight when changing.
As far as a two speed axle, if you find one let us know, I think all the ones available for our trucks are too big. If there was one available I'm sure all the folks who make under/overdrive gearboxes would be out of business or would be selling them.
