I need the part number for the housing that the rear main seal presses into. I have it all tore down and bought the seal kit from dodge because cummins didn't have it $82. 00 :--) twice as much as cummins also came in cummins package. but the seal was leaking around the O. D. Seal turned in the housing.

Can't you call a Cummins dealer (again) and give the serial number? Tell them you need the housing. They will get it and you won't even need the part number.

What are you going to do "with" the part number???

I'm not a smart butt. I just don't know why any one would need the part number for (half) the stuff ordered. Serial number will tell them the part number. Is this confuesing to anyone other than I?

If you have a good parts source.

I talked to Cummins in SE MO and got different part numbers from each guy. I'm glad to say that's not my typical experience.

I replaced the seal in my '92 and the '89, both of them had spun. I got an updated seal with multiple serrations on the outer edge, all rubber( plastic?).

I just cleaned the housing and installed the seal, never took them off. The seal installs dry, no silicone, loc-tite etc. 12,000 miles on the '92 since then, no leaks, the '89 went down the road so I don't know.

Hi,

wraney, I looked on Cummins Quickserve Online and came up with;

Cover,Rear 3936904

Hope that helps.

As far as just telling the parts guys your serial number and them looking for a part, I found that most of the time it was easier and more reliable to look it up myself; or to ask ya'll. I've found stuff on QSOL I was needing that they couldn't

It may just be my luck, don't know.

Quickserve Online does cost 50 bucks a year, but it is most definitely worth it!

I use the Cummins branch in Columbus Ohio, called Cummins Bridgeway. If I give them the part number it will and does superced to a new number. All they need is a serial number and they have the latest and greatest numbers and parts. No need for the part number on my ... ... ... ah ..... part ;)

Besides, a good parts source renders the Cummins Quick serve obsolete.

If you guys are obtaing parts through a truck, ag, or industrial dealership, your going to have some problems. You need to contact a branch house and skip all the bull. Not just that, but I cut out a middle man and achive parts much cheaper than buying them locally from the OTR truck dealership(s)

Part Number 3936316

12 valve (inline injection pump)Lift pump from local dealer; 207. 00

Same pump from branch house ; 126. 00
