Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Redline questions

Ive got a bad oil leak coming from the rear of the motor. After a driving awhile theres a good sized oil spot maybe 7" diameter plus various other little spots here and there. Got under there today and the bottom of the trans adapter where it bolts to the engine is soaked with fresh oil. Specifically between the flywheel (NV5600) and the motor. I shut it down, wiped everything clean, started it up and had to wait maybe 4-5 minutes before I saw any leaks. Both sides (corners) of the trans adapter right where it meets the outside corners of the oil pan is where the leak is coming from. There is nothing coming from the backside of the pan, just the outside corners. Idling there isnt much of a leak so I take it for a drive. When I returned the whole underside of the trans and trans adapter is soaked with fresh oil. Any ideas?? Maybe rear main seal?? What else?? Maybe oil pan gasket?? Man, I dont really want to drop the transmission if I dont have to. Maybe Ill snug up the oil pan bolts on the back corners and see what happens. Any other ideas??

Thanks,

Chad

Sounds like main seal. All that oil gets slung in the bell housing while your driving then overnight it runs down onto your driveway. How many miles are on the engine.

Checked the sides and back of the block, no oil. The Valve covers checked out good too.

Probably the main seal. Could the clutch get contaminated with oil?? I dont want to drop the transmission to replace the seal and then have to drop it again to replace the clutch. Might as well get it lined up now do to do right the first time.

Thanks!

Its probably your rear main seal,BUT I had the same problem on my 94 model and it turned out the pilot bearing had destroyed and the input shaft into my 5 speed was whipping out the seal and bearing in the transmission.
