Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Oil Leak

Hey guys I got my oil changed about 500 miles ago. The guys at the local valvoline oil change place didnt seem to know what they were doing I used my own oil it is rotella t synthetic and my own fleetguard oil filter. Ever since they changed my oil I have smelled oil burning so when I got to work I checked under my truck and as you are looking at the front on the right side opposite the oil filter side about 6 drops of oil were on the ground after 1 hour of sitting. I checked the plug it looks good and this is in front under the steering box and I know its oil. I power washed the bottom of the truck and parked it now I see no oil on the ground but the engine is cold. Anyone know what this could be do you think it is a real leak or dumb high school kids that dont know how to change oil thanks nick also I have noticed the smell isnt as bad now as it was the day it was changed and that was 4 days ago.

Also I have noticed that when the truck is parked overnight when I get in the truck in the mornin the brake pedal is very hard until the truck runs for about 10 seconds and it only seems to happen when its below 60 degrees

Have you checked the power steering fluid to see if it has dropped at all?. You may have a leak associated with the power steering pump or vacum pump(seal out possibly) assembly which is contributing to your dilemma.



Also, being its a 12v and the leak is where you say it is it could be a visit from the dreaded KDP. Do you remember at anytime recently a starnge noise from the motor while it was running and then it went away?. What happens is the locating pin for the front cover falls out and drops into the cam and pump gears and lodges in the corener and then cracks the front cover case,which leads to a oil leak. Look at the cover closely where the P-Pump attaches and see if you can see any cracks in the case there or behind it. I had 2 go and they can make a leak and a nasty mess... ... Andy

No noise and I am familier with the KDP my truck only has 85000 miles on it I think it is the vacuum pump I only have about 3 drops of oil dripping out of it.

OK so I got under there yesterday and checked the timing case all looks fine there. It looks like I have normal oil pan gasket seepage the only place I can see a fresh wetness of oil is under the power steering pump I believe the vacuum pump and its running down the side of the block about two inches to the area where the oil pan meets the block. Should I assume that this is a vacuum pump leak? Or is there anything else in that area that can leak? also is the timing pin in that area and can that leak thanks.
