I have a engine oil leak on my 2002. I found it to be comming from behind a plate mounted to the block with one bolt. It measures about 1"X 3" It is directly behind the starter, about 3" above were the dipstick tube enters the block. Does anybody know anything about what this covers and how it is sealed?

Without going out and looking, that kinda sounds like the fuel pump Boss for when the block was used in an off hyway app. that used the mechanical fuel system. It could be, and probly is, sealed with silicone. Although I thought that might have two bolts on it.

I would think it would have two bolts too if it was holding on a fuel pump. this looks kind of like if you loosened the bolt you could swing the plate back for access to something.

I just had to go out & take a peek. That spot exactly describes where my Crank position sensor is, which is held my one small bolt. --has a 10mm head. I know there a number of electrical differences between yer 02 and my 98, is the CPS located elsewhere? If so, that must be a blank cover for the unused hole.....

I just checked the repair manual and found references to the cam position senser in several places with pictures but no reference to a crank position senser. Maybe they didn't use one on the 2002. If that is the case your probably right. Thanks for the help.

I have a leak at the same place in my 2002 with 530,200 on the clock. This must have started recently because the leak wasnt there at the last oil change. ANY IDEAS????

Remove cover, clean all mating surfaces, install cover with a healthy glob of quality silicone or equivelant tube delivered sealant. From the above problem, I gather that this just gets "splashed" with oil, no pressure, so any decent flange sealant should take care of it. Just remember the "clean" part.

Shootin' from the hip here, though, the thread hasnt given closeure on wheather or not this problem spot is a blank for previous crank sensor use.

*edit* HOLY COW! I remembered this one, thought it was just 6 or 8 months old... . wrong! Ive had two kids since my last post!
