Had my 96 off the road for 5 years, just started running it again. before I semi retired it, there was an oil leak, the type that sprays oil under the truck as you drive, then when you stop about 2 5 inch puddles form. After it sits no more oil will come out. Since bringing it back on the road I've tabbed the KDP, and replaced the vacuum pump, after starting it up there was a pretty fast drip of oil coming from somewhere just above the vacuum pump area, could this be the tappet cover? Been hoping I would never have to remove the IP pump, but maybe I'll have no choice now. Thanks for any help!

There's a good chance it's the tappet cover but there are also other possibilities that are easier repairs.

The oil pressure sensor is on the side of the block between the Injection Pump and the Vacuum Pump. They have been known to leak profusely when they fail.

There is also the oil supply hose for the Injection Pump that can develop a leak or just loosen and leak oil.

I'd start by cleaning everything up well and then watching to see exactly where it's coming from. I would remove the intake horn so you can move the CAC tubes out of the way for easier access.

Good luck!

Thanks! I did some looking around this morning and found what I think is my oil pressure sensor, I'll post a pic. It looks like it broke off, would this allow oil to leak at that amount? Thanks for the advice!

Is the pressure sensor the same for all 12 valves? Or did they change it at some point? Thought I read somewhere that there were 2 different connection types.

'94-'97 were the same, '98 was different. The connector is different, threads are the same, not sure about internals.

A bit late, but here is a tip for the next time. Purchase a brass extension for the sensor. IIRC mine needs a 12 mm wrench. It is much easier to get a small wrench up there than the large 22mm it takes to rotate the sensor.
