Have myself a substantial oil leak on my '97 Dodge diesel. It seems to be coming from the front of the engine about the damper pully on the crank. I certainly am not sure. The oil is blowing along the pan back to the bell housing and dripping there too. There is oil all over the front suspension. The truck seems to leak more when it sits on a grade with the front to the high side. Any advice? Is the Cummins known for oil leaks at particular locations? Thanx.

Sounds like you got bit by the killer dowel pin. If you do a search for kdp you will find much info though much of it is about preventing the problem. This thread is a good start. http://216.235.147.117/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=38109

Heres a picture of the typical damage, crack in case left center, you will have to remove your fan and it's bearing housing to see the damage.

The repair is quite involved (and expensive) requires removing the front of the truck to pull the cam out. Some folks have used epoxy for a temporary fix. While there are a couple of other possible leaks in this area if the leak came on fast with a lot of oil the kdp is the likely culprit.

mine showed the same symptoms about a week ago and i am currently getting the gear case fixed due to the KDP. hopefully it isn't the culprit in your case, i went through denial, but more than likely i would guess it is.
