I'm kind of an old newbie and I thought I would ask if anybody else has had an oil leak on the driver side of the motor.

is it easy to fix?

were could it be?

I can hardly see threw all the plumbing covering the block.

my truck is a '97 with 210,000 miles and automatic trans.

Bob.

The cover over the lifter gallery leaked on mine. Just tighten the two screws and see if that helps. You have to feel around for them on the side of the engine.

Some people have had oil leaks in the power steering pump and vacuum pump seals. That hasn't happened to me yet so maybe someone could chime in about that.

My year of truck has a breather bottle that spews oil all over the drivers side of the truck. (underneath) I am not sure about yours.

Thank you all for the replies, this has given me a starting point.

I did some close examination while I was changing the oil yesterday, and could see that things are dry around the power steering pump and lifter gallery.

Most of the oil seems to be centered around were the motor mounts to the frame and lower.

Could the bolt holes that keep the motor mount bracket on the motor be a source? Do the holes go all the way threw the block to the crank case?

I tried to tighten them and the oil pan bolts, they seemed ok to me.

Thanks again for the help

Bob

The blow by hose on your truck is about in that area. Check for a plastic hose about one inch in diameter hanging down beside the engine. It's always messy. I replaced mine with a long piece of plastic hose that I tie wrapped to the frame rail so that the end of it is just in front of the left rear wheel. Now, once in a while, I will get a litte spot on my garage floor under the end of it.

Bob, I've had good luck cleaning up the mess just extending the blowby (messy) hose to about six inches from the ground. Paint the road instead of the bottom of your truck. Do this by pushing a piece of 3/4 id hose onto the stock one, no clamps needed, it will stay.
