I have been told that a little seepage on the Cummins is not abnormal. for instance my 96' seems to seep from somewhere around the inj. pump, not alot just enough to be damp. Also one of the guys that I work with , has a 00' with 30,xxx mi. and his is actually pretty nasty , in about the same spot. (front left) So lets be honest , who's truck leaks oil ? How Much ? and Where ?

Most any engine I've ever dealt with leaks some as it ages. Whether or not I'm concerned about it depends on if it drips on the floor...

Mine has a tiny leak somewhere. So far I haven't been able to find it. Except for it mine doesn't leak. This one makes a spot on the floor about the size of a quarter after sitting several hours. I've cleaned with brake cleaner and air so I could (I keep hopeing) find it. Somehow it runs down the side of the block, along the flange where the oil pan bolts on, and collects in the center of the bell housing where a little drop will form and eventually fall. Of course, just enuff oil blows back on the cross members and other stuff so that the bottom of the truck stays dirty.:mad: I've replaced all the valve cover gaskets. You ought to see how emaculate the top of that engine is! My big mirror is about worn out looking for any sign of the source. :( I found a screw in the side of the block above the starter that was not as tight as it could have been. It seems to hold some sort of cover on. I hope that was it.

Mine is absolutely BONE DRY. The only oil on anything is from the blowby tube, and when I do my part and keep it cleaned up from the blowby it is immaculate. Not that I do anything you guys don't, it just doesn't leak. It sure is nice to hose the dust off and see that shiny black paint on the block:D The only other vehicle I have ever had that did not leak a little somewhere was a Ford

Had a killer leak after KDP cracked timing cover, but after that fix (thank god under warranty) small leak in rear of oil pan as far as I can tell

Just found my leak at the turbo return pipe. Small hose goes from the tubo down pipe to a pipe at the bottom of the block. Tighten the hose clamps and seemed to stop it.

Joe , I'm thinkin' we've got the same problem, just in different locations. Mine mysteriously appeared and I'm thinkin it's the O-ring gasket on the pump . Oh well I wanted to get the pump tuned anyway , and the timing changed , and... ... ... . ;) Well I think you can probobly see where this is goin'

Glad to see that I'm not the only one.

Leaks

When I bought my truck the valve cover gaskets were leaking, replaced them with the updated gaskets. Now I've got a slight leak at the input shaft of the steering gear-box, it will have to get worse before I'm motivated enough to go after it

Oil Leaks

My truck had a leak around 60K that was fixed by 5 Star, leaking transfer case. About 178K my rear main seal had a chunk missing out of it, leaked enough to make a mess. Replaced it with a 5th gear fix. I had a ongoing leak in the front that was dripping allover frontend and blowing back over the rest of the motor, suspected frt crank seal. I was doing the KDP fix at 220K and found the gear cover bolts were all loose!!:D :p I tightened them up amd no more leaks:D  :p :D
