I've been following the book and using thre gallons of oil, but the stick shows overfull. Which should I beleive?

I guess that the book is by D/C.

The dipstick is probably from Cummins.

Guess I just answere my own question, huh?

Interested in your experience. By the way it's an early '03, 9-02 I think.

11 quarts crankcase--1 quart oil filter= 3 gallons that's what I use. I always fill the oil filter up before install. Mine will read full or maybe a tad over ( I mean very mynuet tad over nothing to worry about). Engine build data sticker shows 11/15/02. :D

Is it 2wd or 4wd? When I change mine I put it in the garage and let it drain overnight. 1 qt filter + 11 qts engine. When I took toy over to dealer for Christmass they were collecting toys they give you coupon for free oil change. I never use them cause I change my own oil. Anyway I had them adjust door for wind noise while I was there and they changed my oil too. No problem I said. But when I got home I checked it and it was probably 2. 5 qts over fill. I just drained some out. As fast as they run them through there they don't take the time for all the oil to run out.

Larry: I normally do my own oil and filter changes also, but about 4 years ago I had a 95 Chevy 4x4, and stopped at one of those quick change oil places, and had them do a oil, and lube change, I stood there, and watched them. The guy putting the oil in used a dial in oil pump system ( you know set it 4 or 5 quarts). I noticed on the way home my oil pressure did'nt read the same, so I waited about 30 minutes, and checked it, it was over full mark three inches. So if the dealership used a oil pump system instead of measuring by gallon jug there pump may have been miscalibrated also. Just a thought.
