On my 01 I was tinkering around with it a little and noticed the snot tube off the gear cover on the front of the motor. Well the cannister that its hooked to was just kinda setting there. It has a screw on cap but even by tightening the cap it doesnt hold down on the tube any better... . and yes the canister fell over and I have oil on the steering box and driveway now. My question is are they all attached this way or am I missing some parts somehow?

Are you talking about the crank case breather bottle ??? thats on front of the motor???

IF so theres wire tie that hooks around the canister I doubt the lid with the hose in it would even hold the canister with out the wire tie.

NOT sure if thats what your talking about THO??

yeah thats it! Id like to smack the person that designed that. come on a zip tie? I know they are cutting corners to save costs and what not...

Get rid of it

Hi Ian, most of us with the breather puke bottle get rid of it. Just go the hardware store, purchase a 3/4"-3/4" barbed fitting and a length of 3/4" ID tubing, remove the bottle, plug in the barb fitting and add the length of tubing. Tie-wrap the tubing to the frame, or crossmember so that there are no dips to catch and hold oil and moisture.

With this setup you have the same basic crankcase breather as the earlier trucks without the mess all over the front of your engine, fan and radiator.

The oil mist from the puke-bottle gets all over the fan blades and the radiator and causes dirt to plug the cooling fins on the radiator. It is a poor design at best.

Hope this helps, Greg L

I lengthened the hose so my bottle sits about axle level (just above it).

I also used Gary KJ6Q's trick of the old sock. No more misty mess. Just a nasty black sock
